Hey all.

I bought an Fuji S5000 (3.2 megapixel) at the end of 2003 and have been using it since. Recently I have been poking my head around the web looking to see some potential upgrades.

The camera within my budget that appealed to me the most would be the Konica Minolta Dimage Z5.

I was wondering if you had any advice/tips as to whether or not it is worth upgrading my camera (S5000) at this point to the Z5, or if you had any feedback on the Z5 itself (major problems, etc...)

Also was wondering how many 5MP pictures a 512mb and a 1gb secure digital card would hold (right now I get 325 3.2 megapixel pics on a 256mb xd card)

The one thing I noticed right away about the Z5 is that it allows for an external flash, something the S5000 does not do. This is of particular interest to me because my primary use for my camera is taking action shots (pro-wrestling) in relatively poorly lit buildings. I can get pretty good shots when the action is within a few feet, but most pictures I take of the in-ring stuff turn out pretty crummy. If you would like to see what I mean, feel free to check out this gallery of some of my shots at this link --- http://files.indyasylum.com/albums/C...05/index3.html

Would the addition of an external flash improve my pictures substantially in this case?

This is the first time I'd be working with an external flash and I am also unsure as to how exactly an external flash works. Where does it attach to the camera? Is something like this automatic or would I need to manually activate the flash before every picture...? What kind of external flash would I want -- a "slave" flash? Any general advice in this area would be appreciated.

Lastly, figured it's worth mentioning that at this point I am still using the "Auto" modes on my camera. I was thinking of maybe taking a photography class or using a few photography books with the Z5 if I decide to get it, to get better use out of it -- is the Z5 a decent camera for learning like that?

Thanks for any help.
