Default 1MB microdrive - Worth buying for a canon p/shot G2??

Just a quick question.

I'm on the verge of purchasing a canon powershot G2 but am a little concerned over the limited storage capacity of the CF memory cards.
I have seen reports of being able to use microdrives for storing many times more images than a memory card. Has anyone any experience in using microdrives especially in conjunction with the G2?

Thanks for your help.

Limited capacity of CF cards ?????????

CF cards offer more storage capacity than any other flash media at the present time. There are CF cards from 8MB up to 1GB, actually there are some 2GB cards but they are rediculously expensive. In recent months the price of CF cards has dropped radically and you can find 512MB cards from $125 to $175 all over the place.

Microdrives are OK but they do consume more camera power and they are of course, tiny hard drives with moving parts and are subject to damage from excessive shock, vibration and mechanical failure. They also do not operate above 10,000 feet as they have to "breathe" to run. There were a lot of problems with the original 340MB Microdrives, I'd stay away from them.

You'll find some great deals on very fast CF cards on eBay, check the listings here:

I use Lexar and Ridata 512MB CF cards and have pretty much retired my Microdrive. Hitachi will be producing a 4GB Microdrive later this year and that will probably spark a little more interest in them again.
