Default Addon filter for snowboard pics

Maybe it's a newbie question, but I really want to know I will be going to France for some snowboarding and I will be bringing my digital Mavica camera.

I've heard of addon filters so I can make better photos when there is a lot of snow around.

Is this really necessairy of just an extra? Would someone tell me about the differences (is the investment worth the better shots?)

ND filters are sometimes used so it's possible to take photos in extremely bright conditions when your camera's shutter speed and aperture don't have enough range to get a correct exposure. It doesn't make them better, just possible. Snow is a tricky subject as the camera's metering system will try to underexpose so you may have to override it and intentionally overexpose to make snow white instead of gray. A polarizing filter is useful for eliminating glare from reflective surfaces. I'd get a ND 4x and polarizing filter and experiment a bit.
