Six years ago, I sold my 20D and lenses because my first daughter was born and I missed so many shots because the camera was never ready to go ...
... yesterday, I decided to get back into it (partially) and bought a T3 and a Sigma 18-200 lens with great reviews. I'm not going all out like I did last time, but I did miss having a great camera and complete control over my photos. So, what have I missed? ![]() |

Technology wise, you've missed a lot!
And welcome back to the fantastic world of dSLRs! ![]()

G'day Rob
Mate - you haven't missed anything .... all that's happened is that you have taken an opportunity that too many others are too timid to try > that of seeing the other side of [photographic] life By my observation, many dSLR features are being copied from the compact world, and the compact world is benefitting from many of the dSLR advances. "left shoe" and "right shoe" ... they both are needed and they both have their place Enjoy the T3 with its 12x zoom > just as I and others will enjoy whatever "bucket-of-bolts" I am shooting with. You know all too well that just as it's the nut-behind-the-wheel that drives the car, so the eye of the beholder determines the result, not the type of milk-bottle that is used as a looking-glass Regards, Phil

If you were missing shots because the DSLR wasn't ready to go, and getting them with your P&S, it sounds as if you haven't been missing anything - 'til now that you have a DSLR again. brian

Well, now I have a smaller kit (one lens) and the kids are older, so the moments aren't gone quite as quick as they were when they were babies.
