I am shocked - SHOCKED at your amateur mind-set. There are always drawbacks to owning a "Professional" tool.
If you feel like that, may I recomend the semi-pro, Standard Poodle? I show my sincerety by adding that I don't handle that model, and it lacks many of the fine advantages of the larger more versatile unit that I sell. Dave |

I think maybe this thread has gotten a little too far off topic :?

In deference to Steve, I'll go back to the topic, in particular since no one responded to the difference I mentioned between setting exposure and setting white balance. Gray cards have been used for a long time in conjunction with black-and-white film...where white balance isn't a problem at all. I'm a little concerned that some will go sailing off in the wrong direction when trying to set white balance.

I position the dog in the location to be shot, take a practice shot, and from then on I'm home free. So while I'm kidding around - I really do use the dog. Dave |

I have heard many professionals and instructors say that the palm of a caucasion hand is a good substitute for an 18% gray card. I've got two gray cards I never use. I'd be willing to trade one for a standard color test card.

After a while, you get tired of fussing around instead of taking pictures, right?
I don't bother at all with white balance these days sinceit isn't necessary when shooting in RAW mode and using Photoshop CS. Just another technicality not to worry about. |
