Default Attachment device for close-up shots?

I just discovered that my camera accepts lens attachments for 'modified' shooting (I don't know the 'tech' terms ), and I want to buy a lens attachment for shooting close-up shots.

The camera is a Canon A590, basic - a step or 2 above Mickey Mouse I guess. I see some kits on eBay, but I'm not sure what to look for just yet.

Comments / tips appreciated (if anybody has something to sell, such as for a starter, PM me here).

I just talked with a camera shop tech. He said $200, roughly, for starters, for what I'm looking for.

He also said something about making a silk purse from a sow's ears (usually a saying reserved to the older, wiser types). Is he close to accurate? I just want to be able to take pics of coins, etc., at 6-8" or so...

Canon A590 is a fine little camera! One of my daughters won several photo awards taken with a very similar model.

If you have the adapter to allow filters, add-on lenses, etc., you might want to try this macro lens:

PS - Your A590 does have a macro setting already (the "flower button" on the back of the camera) - that might be good enough for macros of coins without any additional attachments.
