Sorry for thedumb question but I can't figure this out. I have a pic that is 200 x 200 but the image is 200kb. How do I lower it to 16kb without actual reducing the physical size of the pic? My avartar as shown on the left is about 80 x 80 15kb.

Thanks!

Chris

Use a higher jpeg compression level (lower quality level) when saving it. Most image editors have a slider that you can use to set JPEG quality.

If you remove the EXIF and IPTC data, that can also help to keep the file size smaller. Photoshop's Save for Web feature automatically strips those out.

A free editor you can use is http://www.irfanview.com

When you save an Image using "File>Save As". you'll see a JPEG Quality slider and check boxes you can uncheck so that the EXIF and IPTC data is not retained (it keeps that data by default unless you uncheck the boxes).

Thank you so much Jim! As you can see it work :-) Wow, that's BIG! Maybe I don't want it it so large

It looks fine to my eyes. I see you've got it at 150 x 150 pixels right this second.

Yup, at first I had it at 200 x 200 but thought it was too large so I reduced it to 150 x 150. Thanks for the help!
