Hi everyone!
I have a 3MP camera (Canon A75) and I want to print some pictures. So, before I take the pics to a digital print center, I want to assure that I have the best quality for images. 1. The size. In the camera manual it says that 1600x1200 size photos are good for 10x15 cm printing (letter format) and 2048x1536 photos are good for A4 printing. Ok, I choose M1 size for the taken photos (1600x1200 pixels). 2. The compression (quality). I choose SuperFine - the best posible with this camera. My question is: "Which combination of size/quality is better?" (90% I want good print quality and 10% I want decent file size) 2048x1536 & SuperFine (I didn't try this - I think the size of the image will be just too high) 2048x1536 & Fine (default - is this ok?) 1600x1200 & SuperFine (file size: 0.8 - 1 MB. Is this better than the previous?) 1600x1200 & Fine - I think it's ok. do you? |

Hello claudiuk and welcome to stevesforums!
I think you can't do anything wrong with one of these combinations. I got a Canon A60, which takes photos in 1600x1200 px and let them be printed at a digital print service several times at "Superfine" compression. They look really good! If you don't mind the big file size, take photos at the highest resolution and best quality and you won't make anything wrong. Plus, you have the opportunity to print a certain photo in A4 size. You can still resize a bigger picture, but you can't resize a 1600x1200 to a higher resolution picture. |

Ok, thanks kex. I'll stick to the "1600x1200& SuperFine" ... I'll try to get printed different combination of size & quality and see with my own eyes.
A friend of mine who was worked in a company who involved printing told me that 250ppi are more than enough to human eye. "250 ppi" means 250 pixel per inch so if I want to print a 1600x1200 image on 15 cm paper (equals 5,90 inches) => 271 pixels per inch, which is good. So I think 2048x1536 resolutin is useless and space consuming (yes, I do mind space on my CF card ![]() My question (I think I'll find the answer alone with testing) is: "1600x1200& SuperFine" is better than "2048x1536 & Fine" for printing? |
