Bokeh
I've been taking pictures for over 30 years. I don't claim to be good at it but I am knowledgeable about it. So how is it I never heard this word until I joined this site. Is this just because I'm a silly American now in the international world of the internet or have I missed something? I don't need an explanation of the word I looked it up simple enough. |

Actually, "Bokeh" is a new word in the photographic lexicon.
From Wikipedia: Mike Johnston, former editor of Photo Techniques magazine, claims to have coined the "bokeh" spelling to suggest the correct pronunciation to English speakers. See also: http://www.luminous-landscape.com/co...04-04-04.shtml |

I have a friend who has been a Pro photographer for 40 years. He's worked in fashion and commercial photography using large & medium format for years. When I mention "Bokeh" to him, he said "WTF is that". Just goes to show show important it really is.......

Its not like its something new I just never heard the word before. I had the same problem with "purple fringe" I knew what chromatic abrasion was but I had no clue what people were talking about when they said purple fringe.

Well, it's not all that new. I've heard it in Japanese for quite a few years. Here's a thread from two years ago about the subject.
