Default Canon A40 - shutter sounds

I am looking for help with my Canon A40 - I would like to enable the shutter sound so that when I take a photo the shutter makes a noise. I am sure this is a facility which the Canon A40 has but even after reading through the instruction manual thoroughly, I have not been able to find any reference to this. Sounds like a silly question - but simple enough for someone to let me know the answer! :?

well, it beeps, then you hear a click. If it's not beeping, there should be some option to do it. Let me look at my A40... Hold on a sec.....

..... OK From one of the shooting modes (like "AUTO"), press MENU. Then go to the Setup sub-menu. Then, the beep option. Make sure that is on. That will turn on *all* beeps for button presses and when you depress the shutter release.
