I have questions in reference to focusing.

On page 63 in the Canon manual for the S3 IS, it states; The AF frame appears as follows when the shutter button is pressed halfway. --Green: Shooting preparations complete. --Yellow: Focusing difficulty.

I do not notice any difference in my shots, with a green AF frame or a yellow AF frame. Should there be a difference? If so, what should I be looking for? Thanks!

My next question concerns Manual Focusing. I am not noticing any advantage to this feature. Is there an advantage? If so, how do you get good results with it? Thanks!

If you don't get a green focus lock when you half press the shutter, you'll end up with a lot of blurry photos because they are not focused correctly. Sometimes you may have enough depth of field to compensate if it's not too far off. But, I wouldn't count on it.

As for manual focus, if you are shooting in conditions where the Autofocus doesn't work (i.e, low light), then Manual Focus still allows you to get photos with your subjects in focus.
