Default Canon S200 battery?

Hey guys,

I am about to buy the canon S200 and noticed that the battery being used is proprietary and costs $50 to buy a replacement. I was wondering if the battery supplied progressively gets worse and eventually dies after enough uses. Just curious because the cost of a replacement batter is pretty steep. Also, if the do die over time how long do they normally last?

Its a Litium Ion balltery. It ought to last and handle lots of charge/drain/re-charge cycles.

The original battery in my Pro90 is still in service after about a year and a half. A few months ago I bought a spare from Battery Barn and alternate the two. The new one has a higher rating and runs noticeby longer than the original (2100 MA vs the original 1800 MA). I've had occassions when the spare battery saved my bacon.

After market batteries are less costly than the ones with Canon's name on them.
