-   -   Can't copy files to CF card in camera? (

Hey guys,

I have a wierdproblem. I can't copy files back onto my CF card in the camera. I know a CF reader would fix this problem but I don't have one right now. I'm trying to upload the newest firmware onto the card so I can update my D30 but it won't let me. It won't let me upload images either. When I take images off of the camera it will only let me copy them, not cut and paste them. I have to go back and manually delete them after I'm done copying them. It did the same thing on my S1 IS. I'm running WinXP Pro with all of the updates and have checked all of the permisions for everything, but I can't figure out what's wrong. Have any ideas?

I assume you want to use your CF card as a portable data transfer device.

without a cardreader or CF adapter for your computer - you are out of luck.

Think about it - the CF card is connected to the camera which records the info. The playback function is in the camera software.

You cant go backwards from the computer into the camera. The registery info is NOT THE SAME for the camera (proprietary firmware) and a PC (or MAC).

It's an apples-and-oranges situation.

Does your camera appear as a drive in Windows Explorer...have you tried copying to the card using that?

What does the manufacturer of the D30 (don't know who since you didn't mention it) say about updating the firmware via using the card as a reader?

It appears as an imaging device in my computer/hardware manager. The reason I was confused is that Canon suggests this method to upload the firmware update to update the camera and I've never had any problem uploading files to my old Sony DSC-P30. I need to get a card reader anyway. I guess I'll byte the bullet (pun intended) :)
