I was wondering about the trade-offs between a high quality compact vs ultra compact camera (Not talking about the advantages of a DSLR). Assuming similar size sensor sizes and other things, what trade-offs are you generally making going with one of the ultracompact cameras, for example comparing something like a Canon A620 with SD800?

Commonly mentioned disadvantages of subcompacts:
1. Lack of truly flexible manual settings. 2. Not being able tosubstitute standard batteries such as AAA or AA if the camera's own battery doesn't last long enough. 3. Feeble flash. 4. The lighter a camera is, the more difficult it is to hold it steady when shooting. Not to say that other cameras don't have these shortcomings. |

Lack of any mode settings for the ultracompact, and dont forget the horrid red eye that much more present in ultracompacts.
