My friend has just purchased the Olympus C8080 and claims she was advised to buy this over a nikon DSLR and the Drebel because it would produce much better quality photos.:O I have seen some pretty good results from her camera but Im not sure if the salesperson was right in telling her she would get a better photo out of this 8 megapixel camera than what I get out of the Drebel. Any opinions on this:?

IMO it's the person behind the lens, not the camera!

Salesmen arenot always the most accurate authorities on the products the sell. It is not uncommon for them to haveother motivations to sell the product. Of course, this doesn't apply to every salesman out there, but a salesman that touts the "other" product normally doesn't last long in the field. When I was in sales, we were often offered incentives to push certain products.

Should always ask here first! ;-)
Sure we'll give biased answers, but odds are there will be more than one source of advice and in the replies the truth will come out, which is a lot more than what your friend got! The 8080 is an EXCELLENT camera, BUT the image pickup is the key between the quality and noise of the pictures from the two cameras...the 8080 uses a 8.8x6.6mm CCD, while the dRebel uses a 22.7x15.1mm CMOS. Although you can blow up the 8080's 8mp file to a larger format, who here uses larger than 8x11; although some my print at 16x20, you can still print at that size with the 6mp dRebel. |

Thanks. I have seen some very good macro out of the 8080 but then my G3 takes very good macro shots too, I tend to use the prosumer camera for macro because i dont have a macro lens for the rebel, however I dont think the G3 can go near the rebel with a 300m lens for portrait shots or wildlife.
