A good part of the "disital experience" is the ability to edit the photos. What are some of the best LCD's for this and what are the best calibrating programs? Does size and resolution matter?

The Dell Ultrasharp range of TFT monitors are almost always excellent and really good value. The Ultrasharp 1905FP has great colour rendition and detail.

One freeware app for calibrating monitors that seems to work quite well is Monitor Calibration Wizard.

My vote is for Samsung displays and the Gretag-Macbeth Eye-One display calibrator. Samsung makes the actual LCD panels for many other manufacturers. Yes larger size is good. Higher resolution can be good, depending on what OS and software you are running.
