Hi,

I have a big nasty spot either on the sensor or the mirror. I am sure it is not on the lense or filter as I get the same result with different lenses. How should I go about cleaning it? Can I do it myself? Is it same for the camera (D70)?

I have a cleaning kit with air brush, cleaning solution, cloths,...

How should I start?

Thanks for the advice. It is my first time and I don't want to mess up the camera.

See sample picture attached. Dust is on upper right (black dot)

:-)I cannot give advice on the actual cleaning, that should come either from your camera manufacturer or cleaning kit maker.

But if the spot shows up in your images itis on the sensor. Dirt on the mirror may bevisible in the viewfinder, but the mirror flips up out of the way for the actual image taking.

Whatever you do make sure you have a power source that will not quit while cleaning, having the shutter close down with something inserted in the camera would damage it.

IMHO: I think I would also not use anything with a cleaning solution on the sensor.

Peter.

See this new product on our Breaking News Page:

BTW, if you search through the forums here, you'll see a variety of techniques used. One that many users like is the sensor brush from http://www.visibledust.com

Using Sensor Swabs with Eclipse is another popular method.

If you're not comfortable with cleaning your sensor, you may want to consider letting a dealer or service center do it for you.
