I have a Canon Powershot S1 IS. It has 3.2 megapixels. I got it in August 04. I noticed that digital cameras that are affordable have as much as 8 megapixels. Is the picture quality much different? My pictures are primarily of my babies.
Also, it seems that my camera is a little blurry when we look through the lense. Is this a common problem and is there anything that can be done about it? Thanks! Kelli |

If your images look blurry but print in-focus & clear, it sound's like you need a model with an adjustable diopter. |

Kelli,
Have you adjusted your diopter wheel on the left side of your viewfinder? That should clear up the blurry image if you have not. |

You might also take a look at the front of your lens. Is it crystal clear, or does it look dirty with either dust, smudges or fingerprints on it? If so, you need to clean it.
As for newer cameras having more megapixels, yes they do. A new 3MP camera is rare today. That is just due to the march of technology. Do you need to change? Depends. Do you make many prints and if so, what size? If you make big prints (8x10 or larger), you may see an improvement with a newer camera with more MP. But if you only make 4x6 (or smaller) and/or just look at your images on your computer or TV, then you probably will not see much difference. |

I had a 3 year old 5 mp Sony F717 that had problems. I replaced it with an 8 mp Panasonic FZ30. The Sony might not have had the zoom capabilities of the Panasonic, but the pictures from the Sony were higher quality, more detail in shadows, etc. If the camera meets your needs then don't change it because you may or may not be buying something better.
The first time the dioper adjustment on the Sony got moved, I really panicked (I'd had the camera for about 6 months, long enough to forget that it had one). Definitely worth checking. |
