Like JimC, I keep the digital zoom turned off to keep from using it accidentally.
Digital Zoom seems to have two main uses: *- Marketing to the "More is Better" crowd *- Using 3x digital zoom to turn a 9Mpixel camera into a 1Mpixel camera As Greg noted, there *might be* an advantage in metering with digital zoom - though that would depend on how the camera's metering works. In difficult metering situations I prefer using manual settings and would strongly recomend that approach. Even if digital zoom does solve some metering problems, it will not solve them all. |
