All 35mm cameras seem tohave space in the film plane for a thin sensor array ,even if the pressure plate had to be removed, and space in the film cavity for a whole bunch of miniturised electronics.

The wind on mechanism could trigger new pictures and controls could be added either via a redesigned door or via an attatched unit on the tripod mount where we used to put our winders??

Or am I just being completely stupid?? (......probably!)

It seems a shame to have to bin our nice 35mm cameras/lenses etc somewhere down the line.

What do you think?

That idea was tried and a company was formed to market it and all they ever did was gather some venture capital money and then disappeared. It was called Silicon Film and they were going to make a sensor and memory and battery thing to fit in 35mm cameras. There are just too many variables involved to make it practical. Plus, a film camera was never made to be used with an electronic imager. If you want a digital SLR then buy a new, state of the art dSLR camera with a lens made for the sensor!
