In addition to the issue of the image going dark (all cameras, all lenses) when looking at the DOF preview, keep in mind that you are looking at a very small image. Nowhere near large enough to really judge much detail in DOF - esp when that image is very dark. DOF preview is kinda interesting to play with, but is really pretty much useless.

There's always room to tweak the amount of blur in post processing, too. But it's easier if you try to get what you want in-camera.

How do you think that the DOF preview will be on the E-330 LCD with the live-view ?

I think it will be fairly useless. The live preview function is a view provided by another sensor. It will not give you the actual image that is going to be recorded by the camera. The live view that uses the main sensor will disable auto focus, and thus require several steps and switching back and forth to achieve focus and then check DOF. Cumbersome at best.

But, we didn't get around to discussing DOF preview in your recent thread asking for votes (this was is now 6 pages of questions and comments): http://www.stevesforums.com/forums/v...=87&page=1 OK -- I'll be nice. But, you are doing an awful lot of analysis and seem to be going over issues that have already been asked about before (and answered by a number of forum members here). Feel free to get all the opinions you want. But, keep in mind that they'll most likely be biased, including ones from me. |
