What does the warranty cover? You have to remember that the camera is covered by MFR warranty for a year.

i got the warranty on my camera at staples. The first year of the coverage is from the manufacturer. The second year is from staples. They will fix it if malfunctional or replace it with something of the same value if there are not making your camera any more, which will likely be.

If you really want a good extended warranty, I'd check to see if the camera's manufacturer offers. For instance, Olympus offers a 2 year extended warranty for $90 which includes a cleaning and checkup. I can't say what Canon offers.
