Hi, I was trying to improve the flash of my point & shoot digital camera by using a external flash but it doesn't seem to be working. The flash unit is attached to a photocell hot shoe and triggers when there is a flash it works fine for the SLR cameras.

The digital pictures are always darker then ones with just the camera flashes, I tried the various settings on the flash unit (to reduce output) but no good. Does anybody think this maybe also a timing(delay)/sync issue?

Thanks in advance

Well, you probably need to provide a little more detail.

What is the model of the digicam you are using?

What is the model of the flash?

What are your settings on the camera when you use the flash?

Does your camera manual say you have to program a certain setting if you are using an external flash to say "I'm using an external flash, not the built in one"?

Without some detail, it would be nearly impossible to answer your question.

Make sure the flash you are using is for Digital Cameras.

Digicams use "pre-flash" for exposure calc, this pre-flash will trigger non-digicam ready flashes(too early) and the picture will bedark.
