What does it mean, and how does it affect the quality of the product?
I'm in the market for a G3 and the only new ones that I can find are out of my price range. The factory refurbs seem to be my only choice. |

It means it was returned for some reason and sent back to the factory for repairs. Many times, it will be a much better buy and you have the knowledge that it was looked at by a technician.
Sometimes, items are returned to the retailer and they resell them as factory refurb when they were never sent back to the factory. Look for a seal from the manufacturer on the box. |

Sometimes you just get a camera someone returned because they didn’t like it and they can’t sell it as original. With older products they can be well used. It is a crapshoot in that regard. You don’t have much choice if you buy online except to return it if it shows too much wear.
Major manufacturers fix any problems and usually cover them with a 90 day warranty. Usually enough time to find any problems and have them serviced under the contract. Most people have good luck with factory refurbs. |

I have purchased factory refurbs and find them excellent buys. You will find that manufactors often have their own refurb section.
