What are everyone's favourite freeware photo viewing/editing programs?
For general viewing and general editing, I like IrfanView which can be found at this site the last time I checked http://www.tucows.com/preview/194967.html Anyone know of any other nice free programs? |

Wow, from what I've seen, Ithe Gimplooks like anamazing little program.
May have some bugs but what the heck, it's fun and free. I was going to get some commercial program but why bother, there's so much to play around with here. Thanks for the link. |

I haven't used gimp either, but photophiltre (http://www.photofiltre.com/) is very good. Also, for removing NOISE, try Noiseware (www.imagenomic.com) or Neat Image (www.neatimage.com). Great results, although Noiseware is faster.

THANKS for the info on Noiseware! I was looking for something to do that but didn't know where to find one that was free...Have not tried it yet but it seems promising...

Another one for irfanview. Its ability to make slidshows is very handy. (I have photoshop for editing.)
If people care, I have non-photo free software which I like a lot... but they are a bit off-topic. Eric |

In addition to the ones already mentioned (Irfanview, GIMP, Neat Image), I use the following programs:
Gallery (for my online photo album): http://gallery.menalto.com/modules.p...amp;file=index Exifer (for viewing/editing EXIF metadata): http://www.friedemann-schmidt.com/software/exifer/ JpegCrop (for cropping, rotating, flipping etc.): http://sylvana.net/jpegcrop/ There are probably some other little tools in my box that I forgot, if they come to mind while I use them I will collect a list of links and post it somewhere (probably in the newbies section). Apart from the freeware tools, I use Photoshop or the DiMAGE tool that came with my camera. I use JPEG tools a lot, as my DiMAGE Z2 does not have RAW mode (yet!!! I understand there is a hacked firmware for Z2, and I am collecting courage to install it). Hope it helps a bit! Michael |

Oh, I completely forgot a few.
jalbum. When I was doing research on gallery creation software it did everything I wanted... and none of the others I found did. As many pictures on a page as you want (controlling number of colums & rows), as many pages as I want, a HUGE selection of templates for the albums. I highly recommend it. Oh, and it runs on the Mac or windows because its in Java. filezilla. The best ftp program I've ever used. Completely open source and free... I don't know why anyone else sells an ftp program any more. It even supports SSH2 and a few encryption systems. I used exifer to read and copy exif data between pictures. A bit clunky, but it worked. There might be better (or it might be better, I rarely have a need for it now.) Eric |
