I have just bought a Fuji E550 and the camera seems to work well. The problem I have is with FinePixViewer. Its installation was difficult (Windows XP) with an error message at the stage for MicroStaff WinaspI installation (whatever that does?)
Windows Explorer seems to find the camera on Drive F but I cannot consistently copy files that way. (Sometimes it works , sometimes it says "cannot read".) The Finepixviewer won't upload pictures automatically as it should and even when it "sees" the camera as Drive F, it either disappears after 20 seconds or says it cannot read from that folder. My previous camera still operates and uploads properly on its system soI don't think the computer is at fault. Does any body else have a similar problem or have I just got a "dodgy" copy of the software? I'm trying to seek help from the supplier and Fuji but no joy so far. I have re-installed 5 times! Thanks for any help you can give! James |

Perhaps your WINASPI.DLL file is missing or corrupt. That is an application extension driver which is normally located in your Windows/System folder. Since you had an error message at installation, I would bet that the problem lies with Windows, rather than the Fuji software. Try going to the Microsoft site and search for WINASPI.DLL under downloads, then try uninstalling winaspi, which should be located in your MicroStaff Winaspi folder, which you will find under Documents and Settings/All Users folder. Then install the newly downloaded aspi file.
I can't answer why your other camera works, except that maybe it doesn't use the aspi file or maybe when you installed that camera's software, it moved the aspi file and the Fuji software can't locate it (???). Computers are wonderful when they work right, but otherwise, skafbaeksgfiaud!!!! Good luck. the Hun |

Do you have enough memory...have you done a VIRUS check lately? Many times we blame the software...but our computers are at fault!

Thanks for the suggestion. I'll be looking into that. What is strange is that the Fuji software CD failed at the installation of the MicroStaff winaspi stage. As the other parts of the installation all succeeded I tried to carry on without that part. Others have said that would not matter but you think that it could be the cause of the problem. It's still giving the response again today of 20 seconds on and 20 seconds off in recognising the camera.
Fuji haven't come up with an answer yet and are prepared to replace the USB cable in case that is the problem. Your suggestion does seem to tie in with the installation problem I had. The strange thing was that the very first batch of pictures taken with the camera did download to the PC but nothing since. James |
