Here are some more comparison.
The Mrs. Rob Thomas aka Eva Mendes where shot with NR turned off, 3200 pentax first, canon second follow by the crops. Sorry I shot the canon at 5.6 and the pentax at 4. So I will follow up with another with NR both at 5.6. I did not catch that when I was shooting. Hopes this works better for you Ned ![]()

So far, the pentax has a better auto white balance then canon. Canon push the white to yellow while the pentax is more white correct. This set indoor shot at 1600 and 3200 really shows that.
Here is the first set at 1600 iso, same format

So after shooting this comparison. The canon does give greater detail an over expose is some conditions. The Pentax seem to underexpose in some condition. The canon seems to keep details better with more noise. While the pentax lose the detail more with better noise control. Canon auto white balance is not as good as the pentax, when you put it indoor in low light. You will have to adjust it to tungsten or what ever is the closest lighting condition. But I did do a test shot at tungsten and the canon was the closer to the pentax at tungsten. But the pentax white balance system is better.
Both are excellent low light camera. I would feel comfortable taking either out to shoot in low light. Just adjust accordingly. EV up on the pentax, Ev down on the canon. And change the white balance manually as it will get you closer if you can not do a custom white balance. Hope this help all the members considering getting a dslr that needs good low light performance. Thanks all for stopping by.

It seems that the angle of view you used for the Pentax is different from the angle of view you used for the Canon. Was that to compensate for the diference is resolution between the 12MP K-x and the 15MP T1i?
Since increased resolution all by itself, reduces the impact of noise, I'm not certain that your examples are the best way to show the differences.
