Just bought a new S5700. The manual is vague in this area.
I tried using a soft cloth but that wasen't enough to get it off. What about a tiny bit of window cleaner on a soft cloth? Will it damage the LCD? It is very distracting to have grubby blotches all over the screen, especially in preview mode. I don't have any fancy camera cleaning products, yet. |

I have found that the microfiber cloths works very well.

Actually, the LCD is just glass, so any glass cleaner would work. The problem is what the cleaning products might do to the rest of the camera (i.e.: the finish of the metal parts, the plastic, what would happen if any liquid that seeps into the case, etc.)
As amazingthailand says, a microfiber cloth would be good. I use Glass Plus wipes for most general purpose cleaning, and most times they are fairly lint free. |

Oh good. I thought that glass cleaner would do the job and be safe on the LCD screen but i just wanted to make sure.I have a microfibre cleaning cloth, i also use it to clean my cds/dvds because it is ultra soft. Using the cloth on its own is not enough to get the smudges off, but with a bit of window cleaner it shall work well. Cheers.

You think finger smudges are a pain...Wait until you get those big greasy nose smears on your lcd screen....:O
I do a lot of shoots on the beach and salt air is a constant problem...My routine is a couple of slightly damp paper towels, wipe the camera and the lens, repeat with fresh slightly damp paper towels...Using water only...This takes any salty residue off the camera and also cleans the finger prints or nose prints off the lcd screen...:G |

My S5100 LCD is plastic and if yours is be sure to avoid cleaners with ammonia. It will cloud the plastic over time. A microfiber cloth dampened water or 50/50 water and isopropyl alcohol should do fine.

But for minor smudges, pure distilled water is a fine solvent. |

You must have a big nose, hahaha, just kidding. I always try and keep my nose out of the LCD when i'm taking a photo but sometimes when i'm careless it touches the screen. I do have a big nose, i'll admit that. |
