I have a Panasonic NV-GS17 and have successfully captured the video onto PC using Windows Movie Maker and then successfully transferred this onto a DVD-R disc. I can watch it on the laptop it was made on but not on any stand alone DVD players. What should I do? The whole point of this camera was to make DVD's for members of the family.

To play a movie on a stand alone DVD player, requires that the video be in a special format. I do not know if the microsoft movie maker can do that. Simply copying and buring the video file to DVD will not work. You will need a program that can convert the video to the DVD format and that can burn it as a DVD video.
On an additional note... not all media will work properly in stand alone DVD players, nor will all stand alone DVD players be compatable with home burned DVD's. The older your player is, the more likely this will be a problem. I use ConvertX2DVD to convert a video file to DVD format http://www.vso-software.fr/products/convert_x_to_dvd/ Then I use Nero to burn the converted video to DVD (Select DVD Video on the menu). |
