G'day Mich

this is a near-impossible matter for anyone outside the family to become involved with ... non-family people [here or elsewhere] have no knowledge of your family's circumstances, thus I - and no doubt others - cannot answer your query as you may wish

The "best" I can suggest for you is to put some time & effort in with a local shop or community where you can earn your own pocketmoney - then go to your local second-hand dealer and see what you can pick up for the pocket money you have saved ... thus the camera is yours, you have earned it via your own efforts

hope this helps a bit

Ditto on that, and you can get some real decent photos out of cameras that don't cost much at all. At least you'll be able to make good photos while learning to see photographically, working on composition and the like while saving for a more advanced system.

The time-honored method is to threaten to hold your breath until you turn blue unless your parents do what you want...

Reading between the lines, I suspect the OP may have been given a budget of $200 by his dad... However if that's the case, this should really be in the 'What camera should I buy' section.
