OK, here's a list of my digicams:
1st was the Aiptek 1.3MP. An all around terrible little piece of crap that I was so glad to get rid of. 2nd was the Olympus 3.2MP C350Z. Again an awful digicam, poor quality and even worse ergonomy. This is the reason I will never ever buy Olympus again. 3rd was the Sony 7.2MP DSC-V3. A very fine camera with excellent optics and with a few excellent capabilities that I have never seen on other cameras since. I'm talking, ofcourse, about the NightMode. Had some problems with the battery and sold it because I came to a point where I felt the need for a tele lens. 4th was the Panasonic 8MP DMC-FZ30. A great camera that had everything an amateur could ever need. Unfortunately, as I mainly shoot in low to medium light conditions the FZ30 soon proved to be very annoying because of its high level of noise. Sold it to endorse my next purchase. 5th is the Nikon D50 with the Sigma 18-200mm lens. A dream machine that finally delivers the goods. This one is finally a keeper. It will be some time until I will feel the need to buy my next (Nikon) dSLR. |

If you limit the list to digital cameras, I've actually owned only two, both of which I still have: a Nikon Coolpix 950 and a Coolpix 995. Although I have used SLRs that were temporarily in my possession before, I have never owned one before today. I just ordered a secondhand Konkca-Minolta 5D.
By the way, the 950 is pretty much falling apart and the 995 is also getting a bit temperamental. Then again, I suppose they have a right to be, having 15,000 plus shots on each of them. |

1 - 1998-01 Sony DSCF1 - 330k pixels, 2Mb (I think) onboard memory. My 10th Anniversary present from my company (plusone big pi$$ up!) - Chip got friedwhen Windows 98 crashed while I was downloading some images.
2) 2001+ 3days! Kodak something or other. An all-in-one Digital/movie camera & mp3 player. It was awful. Picture quality horrible, purple fringing all over the place. To be honest, it was probably more aimed at kids and the guy at the shop did say I could take it back....and I did, after 3 days! I replaced it with; 3) 2001-date Sony DSC-P50 My first 'proper' digital camera. 2.1MP, 3x zoom, took AA batteries as well as LiIon. Great camera but was getting outclassed by more compact models as this one was a little bulky. Still have it now and usually lend it to friends and family. 4) Canon IxusV3. 2003-2004 As I felt the DSC-P50 was too bulky,I got charmed by this little beauty. 3.2MP and fit nicelyin my pocket. Had it for a year before the zip in my rucksack came undone while on my motorbike doing 120mph on the motorway! Camera fell out along with my jogging bottoms, trainers, underwear, socks, and lock-chain. Managed to recover most except the socks and underwear (which I saw in a bush a mile later!) and the camera was nowhere to be seen! I found the battery and case (with hole) though. 5) Canon Ixus500. 2004-date Decided to stick with the Ixus as it meant I had spare batteries and another charger. Great camera and still use it a lot. Vivid pictures. 6) Konica Minolta D5 SLR. 2006-date Bought this in March after deciding to step up the the SLR stage. Great camera, feels more solid than the Canon 350D. Now have a Sigma 70-300mm lens, KM 28mm prime lens plus various accesories. The last two camera's I take with me whenever I go on holiday or to sports events. The SLR for the main pictures and the Canon for when out in the evening with friends. |
