I went ahead and purchased an Olympus C-5050. Couldn't be happier with it so far!

We don't have the Optio 450 or 550 yet but the OptioS review should be posted in a week or less. Watch the News page, the list of reviews next to the Photo of the Day thumbnail is always updated as soon as new review is posted - watch the top slot.

Thanks, i could imagine it's tough to decide what to and not to review but IMVHO this looks like a relatively new idea to mix a GENUINE compact camera with a big zoom and a very smart feature set aimed more at the "funsumer" (eg,. video out, long movies, frame by frame movie of photos, stitching and a raft of options) more than just focussing on actual photo settings.

The Minolta D7i has a 28-200mm manual zoom (7x optical). 7fps in 1280x960. Electronic live histogram, manual focus adjustment.
The big things are manual zoom and focus control. But it can be noisy so you'd always have to lock it to ISO 100. On camera flash has low range, so a hot shoe flash like the Sigma 500 Super is a real good choice. Has a standard 49mm front end for macro lenses, filters and the like. I'm biased so ask around, I hear good things about Olympus too.... The cam can be had for about $650 from www.buydig.com. |
