I am shopping for a second (replace an old ephoto1280) digital camera with most of the following attributes.

point & shoot with easy to use controls
built in lens cap (won't get lost)
rugged enough to carry in a purse
good for low light indoor shots
can produce quality 4x6 or 5x7 prints
reasonably fast on/off, shutter lag, dump to memory, etc
under $300
3x+ optical zoom with viewfinder zoom
flash above lens to avoid side shadow
upgradeable storage
2A NiMh batteries

I am more concerned with image quality (especially low light) and ease of use. I am willing to purchase a slightly larger and/or older (but new) camera for better quality. I want comparable quality to my e1280.

I read some other posts about how larger lens and larger sensors (lower Fx/Fx numbers) are better for low light, as well as higher iso.

From personal comparisons between my e1280 and some newer cameras, the new ones use more compression and result in lower quality.

Any suggestions for cameras that I should consider.

Replying to my own post, I am looking at the Canon A80. It is slightly over $300 and has a side flash, but overall seems the closest to what I want. The swivel lcd (like my e1280) is a feature I like. I noticed the side flash shadow on the indoor flash sample pic at http://www.imaging-resource.com/PRODS/A80/A80A.HTM

Any tricks to preventing the side shadow?

Any other (good in low light) cameras to consider?
