Default Macro with Canon T3i 18-55 mm lens

What is the best way to shoot macro using the 18-55mm lens with the Canon T3i?Or maybe you can't?

Extension tubes such as the Kenko DG Teleplus Extension Tube Set allow for TTL exposure and diaphragm coupling, many other brands don't however. http://www.thkphoto.com/products/kenko/slrc-04b.html

The 52mm of extension will get you to almost 1:1 at 55mm focal length, capturing about 16mm by 24mm. The front of the lens will be quite close to the subject though. I'm not sure how good the image quality will be once your lens is extended but the tubes won't add to the degradation.

There are also close-up lenses that are simple magnifying glasses that screw on like a filter but they will degrade image quality to some extent with the more expensive lenses doing somewhat better than the cheap ones. They would have to be sized to your filter size and priced accordingly.
