Hey all, I just bought a set of Tiffen Macro Filters (+1, +2 and +4) and I don't quite understand how they work.
I set my camera up on a tripod, went to full telephoto and then took a picture of a very small clock. I then attached a +1 filter and took the same shot, the clock looked at bit bigger, exactly what I wanted. I then unscrewed the +1 and put on a +2... and the photo was blurred to the point that it was one solid colour... what happened? How do I use Macro Filters properly? |

Did you bring the camera closer to the subject to account for the closer focus due to the macro lens ?
As you increase the power of the macro lens, the camera will need to be brought closer and closer to focus which is what you want when taking telemacros. Eg at full zoom I can only focus at 34inches, with a +2 lens I can now focus at around 15inches, with +4 at around 9 inchesetc You may wish to read the H1 whitepaper, chapter 12 Close Up and Macro. ![]() ( Image owned and created by AA Katz for his H1 whitepaper ) |
