If i use a 60mm Nikkor macro lens with Nikon D40 should I change it to 18-55mm oneevery time I take portraits

Why would you want to change to the zoom lens for portraits? While the Nikkor 60mm Micro would have to be manually focused on your D40 it would still have superior image quality to the 17-55mm zoom as well being able to have shallower depth of field because of the larger aperture ( f/2.8 ). The 17-55mm has it's place as a general purpose lens.

The 17-55 is not a very good range for portraits. As stated, the micro-Nikkor is way sharper than the zoom.
