I asked the original question about a CPL filter because the exposure in photo one was not quite what I expected and with the change in tonality in the sky so I wondered if something else that I hadn't accounted for was coming into play. That ws not the case but in answer to your question CPLs tend to problematic on wide angle lenses such as yours and I wouldn't suggest them for just general use.

On the other hand I don't suggest UV filters for general use either. Unless your UV filter is a Hoya or B&W multicoated it may also be contributing to your sense of a loss of sharpness in addition to the other factors that have been mentioned.
