Well, there are a couple things you can do - but a lot depends on the web page and the purpose for putting them there. The two approaches to protecting your work are:
1. Only put a small image file on the page - that way even if someone does copy it, there won't be enough image quality to get a useable print. This is the easiest thing to do - but it also restricts the size people viewing the pics on the web page can see it at. 2. Place a watermark on the picture. I know photoshop has the ability to do this, and I'm sure Jasc PSP can do it as well. This essentially makes the image useless to print (not really worth the trouble of cloning out the watermark). Again, without knowing what you want to accomplish on your website I can't say which solution is better for you. I also know that some photo hosting sites will provide protection - for instance Smugmug which I use, offers a pro account. With the pro account you have the automatic option for THEM to watermark the visible images, and also to set print prices so people can order from the site for the prices you set. Versus the non-pro accounts - if you want watermarks you have to upload them that way which means people can't print them because the watermark would show on the print. |
