Okay, after a few responses here (see initial posting below) and elsewhere, I think I've narrowed the field for my decision.
Olympus C-4000 Zoom Canon PowerShot S45 Canon PowerShot G3 (assuming I can get the extra cash!) Which one is the best overall camera? Why? Thanks! |

You know that -4000 and G3 are not in the same class... for the price and the features, I'd compare C-5050 against G3.

The reason I did not include the Olympus C-5050 is because it uses a new xD Picture Card memory type that is not supported (directly) by my HP PSC 2210 printer. I realize that there are card adapters, but I didn't want to have an added expense immediately after getting the camera.
Are you saying though that, assuming I can get the extra money for a G3, it is, without any doubt, a much better camera than the C-4000 or Canon S45? Which one would come in second place? Thanks for the response! |

Have you looked at the either the Nikon CP 4500 or 5000 to compare with the G3?

I have the C-4000, but haven't handled the other two, so I can't make any direct comparisons... only by looking at their specs and comparing them to what I know about the C-4000.
Keep in mind that the G3 costs twice as much as the C-4000, OK? The G3 is better (in my humble opinion) in several different aspects: - faster lens--f/2.0 vs f/2.8 - faster continuous shooting (2.5 frames per sec vs. 1.3-1.5 frames per sec) - bigger zoom (140mm vs. 96mm in 35mm format) - longer movies with sound - RAW format (C-4000 doesn't do RAW) - faster shutter speed (max. 1/1250 or 1/2000 vs. 1/1000) - AF focusing illuminator - hot shoe for external flash - remote sensor and included remote control The C-4000 on the other hand has four customizable "My Modes," which I find invaluable. Better macro (2 cm vs. 5 cm), and slightly wider angle. The advantages of the G3 are formidable, but is it worth 2x the price of the C-4000 to me? Nope. Your and others' mileage may vary, of course. |

Well, okay then! It seems I can add the C-5050 to the list. So now I have:
Olympus C-4000 Zoom Olympus C-5050 (assuming I can get the extra cash!) Canon PowerShot S45 Canon PowerShot G3 (assuming I can get the extra cash!) What do the expert here recommend: 1) the best value for the money? Why? 2) the best overall? Why? Please...I could REALLY use some help here! Thanks! |
