Pentax Kx question

I have the new camera, and have taken a few shots with it. However, I have not been able to set aside some time to begin to learn the camera (1st time SLR user).

Seems like I remember a post where someone commented they used a "vivid" setting and have left it at that. Am I remembering correctly?

FWIW, I have been taking pictures of my kids, and have been relying on the sports/action setting.

Also, I have seen some links to a few good books and video tutorials that are good intros to the SLR. Can anyone include those again.

Thanks, again, for the help.

Personally I don't like the vivid setting on Pentax cameras, I find it over-the-top. I prefer the natural setting, but it's a matter of taste, really. The setting affects jpg files, not raw files. Best thing to do is take a bunch of pictures of the same thing and then decide which you like better.

I agree with Harriet-

The Vivid option is undesireable in terms of natural colors on the Kx, especially complexions colors.

As mentioned it is personal taste, however if you shoot vivid it is very hard to get back to natural, if you shoot natural then you can do whatever you like with it.

Thanks for the responses; I will more than likely keep the auto setting on the sports/action to capture the kids in motion until I spend some time learning the camera.
