Default Perils of Silica Gel?

I have a couple of questions in mind for some time reg. silica-gel,

I have been using silica gel to absorb moisture from the large camera bag in which all my equipment is stored, i use a cotton bag to hold the silica gel granules, and at regular interval i check for the moisture and if by then the granules have turned pink i heat them under the noon sun to reactivate the gel (release all the moisture). most of the time i handle the granules with my bare hands.

#1 Is the silica-gel dangerous to handle with bare hands.

#2 Should the container which is used to heat the gel be stored away from any other use.

#3 Is it safe to heat the granules in the Microwave Oven.

Thanks for all the advice in adv.

I work in a chemical lab. We recently changed the silica gel we use to another sort which is orange in colour due to safety problems with the blue stuff - yes it's toxic, change to the orange version. Do not microwave. We dry it in an oven at 110C over night. Leaving it in the sun sounds good to me.
