Photography for CD Artwork

Hello all, been a while since I have posted here. I have had a few months to start using my new Fuji S5000 and, well, I'm hooked. I also have been working on a project CD (nothing special or spectacular) but I wanted to use some dig. photos for the cover art. I have Photoshop 7.0 and have a surface knowledge of how to do most things. If anyone has any ideas or knows of some cool tricks, or would even like to donate some of their work that would be just awesome.

This will be a CD for friends and family, nothing mass produced, but the CD artwork will have to be pretty good to make up for the mediocre music inside..

I didn't have anything in particular in mind, so as long as its creative, its perfect.

Thanks!

Hi Bria,

Here are some suggestions for your artwork :)

As you may know there is CD self-adhesive stock
that you can put on your CDs.

If you buy some stock, then make several
photo copies of the stock you can "print"
on the photocopies til you get it right.

There is software that will print the CD covers.

Print grey scale as you refine your work to
save ink, then print color :)

Good luck :)

P.S. Once you are finished, please post a post of the
finished product (if you feel comfortable doing so).

I actually never though of making copies of the CD stock paper... great idea!! Less wasting involved there... Thanks!

If they are audio CDs. Make sure that people know if they are placed in a slot loading CD player (ie car decks) that the cover can come off the cd and get stuck inside.

There are printers out there now (well soon i think anyway) that can print directly on the CD itself!

Though I doubt you'll want to spend money on one hehe.

But in normal tray loading players (CD-Roms, dvd players etc) they will be fine :)

Actually, they've been out for several years...just no one knew about them becuase you can't buy them at Radio Shack or Staples. The ones I've seen have all been based on the Epson print engine, and they're not cheap.

printing on cd's with the special printer I think would be the way of the future since if you put a label on a dvd better make sure it is perfectly straight otherwise it wont play in anything
