Most photo editing software will allow you to resize a photo and then adjust the compression to the desired value. Somtimes it takes two steps - one to resize and another to compress.

There are also stand-alone programs for resizing pictures.

Let us know what you have available and we can give more specific instructions.

Hi

Thanks Brian. I have adobe photoshop elements 6. I resized and cropped the picture but still couldn't get it down to the desired bits. the 200x200 was no problem.

You will need to ensure that the image isn't storing the Exif as this will take up a lot more space also you will need some compression.

If you post the photo you are trying to include I can edit it down for you.

Thanks,

Mark

I have an earlier version of Elements, but the procedure should be the same.

After resizing, you need to select 'Save As' from the file menu. You should have a dialog box with quality setting on top and a number on the bottom indicating the number of bytes. Adjusting the slider down will lower the byte count.

This is based on having a .jpeg file type, but a .gif will be similar.

Hi Danni,

Doesn't seem to be attached. Check out the How to post your photossection which should help you out then we can get you sorted.

Thanks,

Mark

I use the Photoshop save for web option as it seems to give a smaller file size than the normal save option. I'm sure you can get the same result with the normal save option if you know all the setting to use but haven't bothered trying to find out.

Hi Mark,

Have done as the suggestion below and seems to have worked, we'll see if it has, but thanks for your help.

You will still have to talk me through what you suggested if you don't mind?

thanks

Danni
