-   -   Which pocket camera has fast flash recharge? (

KIPAX May 20, 2004 5:53 AM

I am looking for a pocket camera. ANY pixels, ANY zoom I don't care. But what it does need to ahve is a decent flash with a fast recharge time. I currently wait around 5 seconds with my UZI .. But I need a pocket camera for when I am at an event or whatever.... But want a quick flash :)

Any ideas please?

The flash recharge time for most models, will depend on the lighting conditions and range to subject.

My Konica Revio KD-510z (a.k.a., Minolta DiMAGE G500) can take 1 flash photo every 2.1 seconds until the memory cards are full in continuous mode. However, this is when I'm taking photos of a close subject (about 3 feet).

Also, continuous mode (holding the shutter button down with it set) doesn't require a refocus and remeter between photos, so it's much faster.

However, when I take a photo of someone across a room, the flash recycle time may be as much as 4 or 5 seconds. Most pocketable models will be similiar. Some are slower. For example, I owned a Sony DSC-P10 briefly last year. It's flash recyle time was muchslower than the Konica.

I'd suggest trying out some demo models in a store -- seeing which ones are faster recharging the flash, at the ranges you'll be shooting at.
