Default Print Size ?

I have a new Canon Powershot G2 - I have the option of the following selections for pixels L 2272x1074 LM 1600X1200 M2 1024x768 S 640x480 - Here is my question - If I want to print 4x6 pictures should I shoot for the largest number of pixels to get the best quality photograph or should I shoot at a lower selection such as M2? Do these pixel settings relate to a particular size photo?

I also have the following compression choices superfine, fine and normal - Does compression affect output quality?

Probably not the smartest of questions but I need to know. Thanks for being patient with me. I am new to digital photography.

Take pictures of the same item with the three different settings and them you can examine the results. My preference is to shoot at the hightest jpeg compresseion avaialble. This is your super fine setting.

Default Pixel-size does matter

If you want the best quality, you should use the biggest pixel-size, and when printing set the dpi (dots per inch) high. When dpi is higher than 300 you'r going to get quite good quality.
And yes, use the finest compression, it affects the quality also.
