quotes

I feel like this is a stupid question, but I haven't been able to figure this out yet - I notice from a number of posts that people are able to 'paste' a quote from a previous post inside their post and it appears in a grey box - whenever I try this:

highlight the text in other person's text, hit <Qoute Select> button and then do a paste in my post, I get text but no box. Anyway I feel sheepish asking but how is this done?

Just click on the "Quote" button instead of the "Reply" button at the top of the message you are quoting. You can then delete portions that aren't relevent to your reply to shorten it.

or...if you want to quote multiple replies...you can do that in the reply box...

look for the quotation marks...right next the "insert image" picture...

just paste wat you want to quote...highlight it...then click the picture of the quotation marks...

i'm not sure how you make it say who said that this way though..

Another way toquote text (without using the built in quote function or quotation marks) is to manually add the start and end quote markers:

[quo te]Text you want to quote[/qu ote]

I deliberately put a space in between the o and t in the word quote so that quotes would be ignored. If you want it to show up as a quote, just place the quote (in brackets as in the above example) at the first part of the text you want to quote. Then, place the word quote (with a forward slash in front of it) in brackets at the end of the text you want to quote. The system will recognize it and put it in a quote box follows:

Text you want to quote

You can also quote a specific user this way, by adding their name, as follows:

[qu ote="JimC"]Text you want to quote[/qu ote]

Note that I deliberately added a space to demonstrate the syntax. The main difference is that you have an = sign after the first quote, with the username you are quoting in quotation marks.

Here it is with the spaces removed so that the system wil recognize it:
