Default Sensor sizes explained.

I've always been curious about the various numbers camera manufacturers use in their specs for the image sensor size. Maybe I'm the last one to find this, but Douglas Kerr wrote an explanation of how marketing types couldn't bear to reveal just how tiny the sensors actually are, so they invented a whole series of number systems, base on 35mm cameras, APS film cameras, and early TV camera tubes, then tweaked those numbers to make them look bigger. It's a mess, but with this PDF report and a small supercomputer, you can get an idea of just how big the sensor is in that camera you're considering.

This is easier for me to understand sensor sizes. itty bitty to Full Frame(35mm) to Medium Format...at the very top it should say (Medium Format Kodak KAF 39000 sensor) for some reason it doesn't. it does in edit of course.
