Should I buy this UV filter?
I have a Fuji S5000 and I was just wondering if anyone knew about this UV filter. Should I buy it?

Can't say about that one, but it's a good idea to have one...personally I just bought mine from the local camera store.

Check the prices at They sell Hoya filters for this price.

Your S5000 undoubtedly has a good quality front lens, probably with a multilayer coating to reduce glare from light sources.

Lower quality filters have a single layer coating. Better quality ones will have a double or multilayer coating.

Note that the ebay ad has no mention of any coating at all.

My guess is that if you put this filter on your camera you would probably make sun glare and reflections a whole lot worse than without it. I would take Phils advice and buy one from a known online dealer or a local shop.

Of course Hoya is the best, but go with the SunPak for 99 cents!

Thank you everybody for your replies. So, now, I have Hoya and Sunpak. Which one should I go with? Will Sunpak work out or Hoya's still the choice?

Well, like I said, Hoya is the best. It's like if I send you to the store to pickup a box of bandages and there's Johnson & Johnson (BAND-AID) or Curad.

SunPak will be just fine and will save you money. I use SunPak for my UV filter and have no complaints.

as long as its a good MC filter from a reputable maker. traceable that is. the glass quality is important as is the type of coating. monocoats don't work that well. cheap glass can change the spectral input. color. there are a few types of glass and as usual quality and

if the sunpak is MC thats fine. its all a matter of choice.
