Default Which should I go for - Fuji 601 or Minolta Dimage XT

I'm just about to take my first steps into digital photography. I don't need anything to complex, just a good point and shoot, my old popint a shoot chemical camera was a Yashica T4 to give you some idea. I've have a limit of 200 and have narrowed it down to the Minolta Dimage XT or the Fjui 601, both are the same price - is one much better than the other? The quick start-up tiime of the Minolta appeals too me.

I've been looking at the Minolta X - argos are selling it at 129
in there sale.

I Like the unlimited movie mode and internal zoom idea. The
whole thing is small to.

I currently have a fuji, which is ok really . I've made prints 6 x4
and 7x5 and they look sharp(though alittle noisy at heighest res
on screen at 1:1).
The only thing I've seen about the the picture quality of the Minolta
is softness in the corners of the image.

I'd recommend a few things about digital cameras from my use
and thats:

get one with a zoom
AA batts if possible / or get spare 'propritory' batts
small size so that you take it everywhere!
decent 'night mode' exposure

hope this helps

Oh and two more:

TV out has been useful when no PC available (useful here to have
a rotate function within the camera)
and that the camera is usb 'mass storage' type ie no driver required!

Default Food for thought

Thanks for the info. I'd sort of marked out the XT over the X20 (the one I guess Argos are sellingI - I've been looking on http://www.internetcamerasdirect.co....ds-Minolta.htm
for prices and users reviews. The higher pixel of the XT over the X20 hsa got me, maybe a red herring though? And as I understood on one review it said it didn't have LCD viewfinder or something where as the XT has. I'm definitlely torn between the two, or possibly 3 now that the X20 has been thrown into the equation!

Both cameras get rave reviews, but the Fuji601 now seems a bargain at the new lower price of 200.
