Smartphones replacing point-and-shoots

Im agreeing with John. While the P&S market has developed the cell phone has as well with resolution where P&S was not long ago. There is an overwhelmingly huge part of that market that is all about convenience and dont really care about the IQ of the image. How convenient is having one right on the phone that you already have in your pocket and not having to pack a P&S at all?

I dont see cell phones replacing DSLRs or the P&S completely but they sure have taken a large portion of the P&S market over the past 2 or so years.

A BlackBerry or even the iPhone 4 could never replace a P&S...even if they're handy for taking pics when seeing something cool on your way to work, a normal person wouldn't use his mobile phone to shoot photos of his trip/vacation...I've actually never seen any tourists take photos of big monuments with their mobile phone camera !

Oh wait..*****atch that ! My mom has a very shiny Samsung touch-screen phone with a 5 Mp camera and she tried photographing the Eiffel Tower with it once...'never again' she said ! However, I'll admit it takes really nice daytime pics...but even on Facebook you can spot the bad image quality !

Anyway, point is compact camera manufacturers shouldn't worry...the P&S is here to stay !
